Keeping Kids Entertained in Your RV

Kids are amazing, but they can easily get bored during long RV rides. That's why it's important to have plenty of distractions on hand to keep their hands, minds, and eyes occupied. We have some great tips for keeping your kids entertained on the road.
- Puzzles and Board Games: Puzzles and board games are perfect for passing the time, whether you're at home or on the go. Some games work better while parked, as bumpy roads can send puzzle pieces flying. However, road trips are an ideal time for kids to play with toys like puzzle boxes and other 3D brain teasers. Many popular board games, such as chess and checkers, offer magnetized versions that are designed for travel.
- Audiobooks: Audiobooks are a great way to make long road trips seem shorter. There are audiobooks for all ages, so they're perfect for tech-savvy kids who want to stay entertained without screens. Younger children can learn about the magic of books and use their imagination, while older kids can catch up on their favorite YA series or school reading.
- Activity and Coloring Books: Activity books, including word searches, math games, and riddles, can keep kids entertained while also providing a sense of accomplishment. Coloring books are also a great way to relax and pass the time. For restless riders, consider pairing an audiobook with a coloring page.
- Scavenger Hunts and Searches: Road trip scavenger hunts are a fun way to encourage kids to pay attention to the passing scenery. Sibling competition can make the game even more exciting. There are plenty of scavenger hunts and searches available online for free, including animal-spotting challenges. Kids who like to multitask may enjoy juggling multiple scavenger hunts at once.
- Soft Toys and Finger-Puppets: Soft toys, such as stuffed animals and dolls, are perfect for imaginative play. Finger-puppets are another fun option that can keep kids entertained for hours. Plus, soft toys are less likely to cause injury during sudden stops or accidents.
- Plan Ahead: All of these distractions require planning and smart packing. If you're not sure which activities will suit your kids, ask them. Some kids may hate coloring, while others may love it. It's important to involve your kids early in the planning process so that you don't pack items they won't enjoy.
Remember, an RV trip can be as peaceful as the distractions you bring with you. Keep your kids involved in the planning process, pack wisely, and be on the lookout for local attractions that can help your kids burn off some energy.
