Ride safely on the Back of a Motorcycle

When riding as a passenger on a motorcycle, you cannot simply be a passive observer. It's important to be aware of your responsibilities and take steps to keep both yourself and the driver safe. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Wear Proper Gear: Just like the driver, you are at risk of serious injury in the event of an accident. Always wear a securely-fitted helmet, protective clothing such as a jacket and pants, and supportive boots.
  • Sit Close to the Driver: To be able to read the driver's body language and mirror their movements, sit as close as possible behind them. Hold onto their belt loops or wrap your arms around their waist for added security.
  • Try Not to Shift Unexpectedly: Shifting or moving around can disrupt the motorcycle's balance and distract the driver. Find a comfortable position before setting off and try to avoid unnecessary movements.
  • Stay Alert: Be aware of the road ahead and anticipate turns and stops so that you can prepare your body accordingly. Avoid leaning forward onto the driver during stops and stay neutral during turns.
  • Develop a Way to Communicate with the Driver: Due to the noise of the wind, it can be difficult to speak while riding. Work out simple hand signals to communicate with the driver.

By following these tips, you can be a responsible and safe passenger.
