Tips for Making Your Motorcycle Seat More Comfortable

No matter how cool your ride is, there may still be parts of your motorcycle that aren't perfect. In fact, many riders find their seats to be somewhat uncomfortable, especially when riding over long distances.

Fortunately, you can customize your seat to be as comfortable as you would like it to be.

Install a Seat Pad

The most affordable solution to making your motorcycle seat comfortable is installing a new seat pad. All you have to do is install it on top of your motorcycle seat. Some of the go-to seat pad types include the following:

  • Gel cushion pads – These motorcycle pads are filled with gel. They are designed to absorb shocks and evenly distribute your weight on the seat. They are thick and provide excellent comfort, but they don't offer proper breathability and may slide from side to side when you're taking corners.
  • Sheepskin pads – If you want a seat that offers exquisite temperature control, sheepskin pads are for you. They feel warm in winter and are not hot in summer. Sheepskin motorcycle pads are also great for absorbing sweat and water. When using a sheepskin, you won't get the rashes most riders get when traveling over long distances.
  • Foam pads – These are seat pads filled with foam. They are very comfortable and perfect for absorbing shock, but they are very sensitive to temperatures. You will also need to secure them tightly to your seat because they are relatively stiff.

Consider Wooden-Bead Pads

There are controversial opinions among motorcyclists concerning wooden-bead pads. Some say they are uncomfortable, while others really enjoy them. This is because wooden-bead pads are made from wood (the surface is hard), with many little wooden balls.

The advantage of using a wooden-bead pad is that it significantly increases airflow and keeps you dry and cool throughout your journey. The beads also give your muscles a massage, keeping your legs awake over long distances.

Use a Backrest

If your motorcycle can fit a backrest, why not install one? Backrests make the seat more comfortable, particularly for motorbikes that let you sit upright. If you are traveling a long distance, it will help support your spine. There are many designs of backrests to choose from. Get one that supports you well.

The above methods will help you get the comfort that you need. However, if you don't feel quite comfortable yet, you can completely change the entire seat or get a customized one.
